Electrical Repairs & Troubleshooting

Electrical problems rarely announce themselves clearly. A breaker that keeps tripping, lights that flicker occasionally, an outlet that stopped working, any of these could have a simple fix or could be a symptom of something more significant behind the wall. Rhodes Electric, Inc. approaches every service call as a diagnostic exercise first. We find what’s actually wrong, explain it to you in plain terms, and fix it right.

We’re a licensed C-10 electrical contractor with nearly two decades of experience serving Murrieta, Temecula, Menifee, Riverside, and surrounding Inland Empire communities. Free estimates on most repair work.

Electrical Problems We Diagnose and Repair

Breakers That Keep

Tripping A breaker that trips repeatedly is protecting you from something, an overloaded circuit, a short circuit, or a ground fault. We identify which, and fix it at the source rather than just resetting the breaker.

Dead Outlets

An outlet that stopped working may have tripped GFCI protection upstream, or it may have a wiring fault, a failed device, or a loose connection. We trace it down.

Flickering or Dimming Lights

Occasional flicker when a large appliance kicks on is usually a load issue. Constant or unprovoked flickering can indicate a loose connection in the panel, a failing breaker, or a wiring problem that needs attention.

Burning Smell or Discolored Outlets

This is a same-day call. A burning smell from an outlet, switch, or panel means there is an active fault. Don’t ignore it.

Circuit Not Working

A circuit that’s completely dead, no power to any outlet on the circuit, may be a tripped breaker, a failed breaker, or a wiring fault between the panel and the devices.

Lights Turning On and Off by Themselves / Intermittent Power

Intermittent electrical problems are the hardest to diagnose and the most important to find. They’re often caused by a loose connection, whether at a terminal, in a junction box, or at the panel, that makes and breaks contact as the house moves with temperature changes.

GFCI Outlets That Won’t Reset

A GFCI outlet that won’t reset either has a wiring fault on the protected circuit downstream or is failing itself. We find out which.

High Electrical Bills Without Explanation

An unexpected increase in electricity use can sometimes be traced to a failing appliance, but it can also indicate a wiring fault or a circuit that’s drawing current when it shouldn’t be.

Arc Fault / AFCI Breaker Trips

Modern arc fault breakers are sensitive and can trip on wiring problems that older breakers would have missed. If your AFCI breaker is tripping, it’s usually detecting something real, we’ll find it.

Our Diagnostic Approach

We don’t guess. Every service call starts with a proper assessment: tracing the circuit, testing devices and connections, and checking the panel, before we recommend a repair. If the problem is straightforward, we fix it the same day. If it points to something larger (failing panel, wiring issue, overloaded circuit), we explain what we found and what the options are before any additional work begins.

You won’t get a vague answer like “old wiring.” You’ll get a specific explanation of what failed, why, and what it takes to fix it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most repair calls can be scheduled within the week. For situations that sound urgent, burning smell, repeated tripping, intermittent power, call us directly at (951) 775-2132 and we’ll assess priority.
We offer free estimates on most repair work. For complex troubleshooting calls where we need to spend significant time tracing an intermittent problem, we’ll let you know upfront if a diagnostic fee applies.
Not necessarily. A breaker that trips repeatedly usually indicates an overloaded or faulted circuit, not a failing panel. We diagnose the circuit before recommending any panel work.
Yes. Don’t use the outlet, and if you can do so safely, turn off the circuit at the panel. Then call us. An arcing connection at an outlet can ignite within wall insulation and start a fire.
Yes. We assess what was done, what’s safe, and what needs to be brought to code. We pull the appropriate permit for any corrective work that requires one.
